The iPhone Is Here! Wish You Were Beautiful!
With all the tra-la-la buzz of the iPhone over the weekend, I’ve been thinking about what I really want out of the iPhone beyond the “it’s the latest greatest, next-generation, world-changing, fit-as-many-buzzwords-in-as-possible tech gadget out there”. Alas, I want one, but given my experience with Apple’s first generation devices, I think I’m gonna wait on this one. That said, read on for my most anticipated features.
So in “Top 5″ fashion, here is what I wantneed out of the iPhone:
- Sync. No doubt about it, I just want(/need) a phone that sync’s with my Mac. I want it to sync my contacts, my calendars, and my e-mail. With all three of these taken care of with Apple’s gorgeous implementation of user experience, hands down this is the best reason to own an iPhone. Everything else in the package is just candy.
- Connectivity. Staying in touch with my online resources (reference sites, checking my client’s websites, etc) is nearly as critical as sync’ing. With a little one now in the picture, a device that can keep me connected while on the go is going to be a lifesaver both to my business, but more importantly to my clients. Our recent extended hospital stay really highlighted that need for me.
- Hello My Dream iPod! I long suspected a convergence of technologies into a single handheld device. I think, perhaps, that in the back of my mind I never had a high enough desire to drop the dough to get an iPod because I was waiting for just this kind of convergence. And what a beautifully executed blend of technologies it is!
- Voicemail that doesn’t suck. From the “well… duh” category, this should have been an option from the beginning of cell phones with higher resolution displays. Mark my words, this is a feature that the other outfits (cell phone manufacturers and providers) will be scrambling to copy.
- Opportunity. A potential side benefit of the iPhone’s launch and subsequent near sell-out could be the new avenue of work in the form of developing iPhone apps. I’m just now putting together ideas for what could be done both for fun and for business. The prospects really excite me.
