My Never Ending Workload…

And I thought life couldn’t get any busier. [Inserts foot into mouth.] This is just a reminder that whatever the state of things, it can always get more extreme than you can imagine. It also brings to mind that when ‘things’ are already at an extreme, it doesn’t take much added extreme-ism-ness to make it feel completely overwhelming.

I’m referring to just about everything I’m wrapped up in at the moment. Namely, preparing for our little guy’s arrival, keeping things moving at UUMC, the normal homeowner routine all the while managing the largest amount of projects I’ve ever had on my plate.

The projects, at least, are going great. Slower than I would like, but what else is new. The highlight so far? I’ve been working on a database project for a document management solution that is really bringing together all the elements of PHP/MySQL work I’ve done in the past into a heavily Object-Oriented web development framework of sorts.

That excites me to no end because of the new-found capability to rapidly build complex web systems with the normal drudgery of web-enabled databases already taken care of. I’ve also been focusing on my own PHP approach to the Model-View-Controller programming paradigm. The result, so far, is such a usable, maintainable, extendable code base I have to just sit back and marvel at how it has come together.

I’ve also started toying with the MooTools Framework. According to the site, it’s a “compact, modular, Object-Oriented JavaScript framework to make writing extensible and compatible code easier and faster”. I’ll be posting a sort of review of my experience with it in the next couple days or so. For now, I’ll just say, yes. Yes, it really is (all of those things).

In other news, after about 11 years, I’ve finally beaten X-COM: UFO Defense. Booyah.
